Questions & Answers

How do I get started?

Taking the first steps towards initiating therapy can be difficult, so don’t put off to tomorrow what you can do today. If you are interested in getting more information about becoming a client, please CONTACT our office. We will schedule a brief, complimentary phone consultation to answer any questions you may have about treatment services and determine whether Downtown Behavioral Wellness is a good fit for your needs. At that time, you can also set up an initial appointment with one of our providers.

What can I expect from my first appointment?

The intake appointment is really a dual interview where your provider will learn about what brings you to therapy and you will learn about their style and approach to treatment. Your intake appointment will be 60 minutes, during which you will describe your current symptoms, emotions, stressors, problematic behaviors, and relevant history. All subsequent sessions are 45 minutes.

How often will I meet with my therapist?

The frequency of therapy sessions is typically once a week, but this may vary based on clients specific treatment plan.

Does Downtown Behavioral Wellness accept insurance?

Like many providers in New York City, Downtown Behavioral Wellness is an out-of-network provider and does not accept insurance directly. Our office can provide the documentation necessary should clients with out of network benefits wish to submit for reimbursement from your insurance company.

How do I know if my insurance company will reimburse me for therapy?

Our office is happy to verify any out of network coverage your plan has when you fill out our contact form.

It is recommended that you contact your insurance company to learn about your “out-of-network” benefits and reimbursement rates. It is best to do this before therapy starts so that there are no interruptions in treatment. To find out if you will be reimbursed for treatment, it is often necessary to provide the CPT code for the service provided. The CPT code for an intake assessment is 90791. The CPT code for a 45-minute individual therapy session is 90834. Your insurance company will process your claim and reimburse you directly.

What are the fees at Downtown Behavioral Wellness?

Please contact our office for current fees. Payment is expected at the time of service. Our office accepts HSA/FSA cards, along with all major credit cards.

Does Downtown Behavioral Wellness offer in person therapy?

Services are available both in-person at our office in Union Square, or virtually via a HIPAA-compliant Telehealth platform. There is flexibility in the option to attend treatment in-person or virtually and depend on each individual's scheduling needs and comfort level.

What is the cancellation policy at Downtown Behavioral Wellness?

Please provide as much notice as possible if you need to reschedule or cancel a session. Sessions canceled with less than 48-hour notice will be charged in full.
